Upcoming Car Shows

Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg are gearing up for the upcoming car shows the next two weekends. The 37th Annual Shades of the Past show will be held at National Parks Resort Lodge and Smoky Springs Ranch on Sept. 11th & 12th.  The Grand Resort Hotel and Convention Center will host the annual Grand Fall Rod Run the following weekend, Sept. 18th-20th.
We will try to post some pictures of early arrivals for the car show later this week.
The Resort still has units available for these two weekends. Via Veteran’s Boulevard, none car show enthusiasts have easy access to Dollywood.

George Jones in Concert

Country music legend George Jones will be performing in concert July 31 and Aug. 1 at Country Tonite Theatre in Pigeon Forge. Advance tickets may be purchased at the box office or by calling 800-792-4308. George Jones’ concerts usually sell out in advance here in Pigeon Forge.

Three Bears General Store

The Three Bears General Store has opened in downtown Pigeon Forge at the site of the original Three Bears Gift Shop destroyed by fire in September of last year. Still owned by the owners of the original store, the Three Bears General Store has many of the same items and services along with some new and updates offerings except for the bears.

The bears, who were saved from last falls fire by local firefighters, will return sometime in August. A new 5,000 square foot habitat is near completion to house the bears. The design of the new habitat is a combination of ideas from various zoos that includes natural elements and an improved cleaning system to keep the habitat clean and healthy for the bears.

John Anderson in Concert

Local Dog One of ‘World’s Ugliest Dogs’

Miss Ellie, one of the stars of the Comedy Barn Canines, recently finished first in her pedigree class division in the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Northern California. The 15-year old Chinese Crested Hairless, owned by Dawn Goehring a local trainer and performer at the Comedy Barn, was filmed last week for a segment of the Animal Planet’s “Dogs 101”.
Comedy Barn owners David Fee and Jim Hedrick graciously donated $5000 to the local Sevier County Humane Society to honor Miss Ellie.

July 4th Fireworks Displays

Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg each have fireworks displays scheduled for the evening of July 4th. Pigeon Forge’s will be held downtown at Patriot Park while Gatlinburg states the best viewing will be on the downtown streets between light number 3 and the sky lift. Both events are scheduled for just after sunset.
For those looking for last minute accommodations The Resort has just a few remaining units available for this upcoming holiday weekend.

Dolly Parade and Bloomin’BBQ & Bluegrass Festival

Now that May is finally here, its time to turn up the fun in the Smokies and the next two weekends should be jammed packed.

The 2009 Dolly Parton Homecoming Parade will be held this coming Friday, May 8th, at 6 P.M. on the main parkway in Pigeon Forge. This year’s parade has special meaning to Dolly, the parade grand marshal, as she is an official ambassador of the 75th anniversary of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park . The parade is one of six Pigeon Forge special events the park has included into its anniversary celebration.

Sevierville’s annual Bloomin’BBQ & Bluegrass Festival will be held May 15 & 16 and Smoky Mountain Resorts is offering a special Rocky’s BBQ package for The Resort at Governors Crossing for stays May 12th-17th.
