This upcoming Friday (May 7) Pigeon Forge will host the 25th Annual Dolly Parade, the unofficial start of this year’s tourist season and the 25th Anniversary season of Dollywood. Legendary local singer and songwriter Dolly Parton will be the parade’s grand marshal. The parkway will be lined with parade watchers admiring floats, marching bands, celebrities and of course the areas favorite daughter, Dolly. This year’s parade will begin at 6PM.
In addition to the Dolly Parade this weekend, Saturday morning at 9AM the Shrines will hold their Fun Fest Parade in downtown Pigeon Forge.
Let’s not forgot Mom this weekend with Mother’s Day on Sunday. The Resort has a special for this weekend including a two night stay and a $50 restaurant gift card for those looking for accomodations this weekend.
The Resort at Governor’s Crossing has their 2010 Dollywood Packages now available. The packages are available for stay dates 3/27/2010 to 10/30/2010 and may be reserved on-line or by calling 800-497-5749. This year Dollywood will be celebrating their 25th season.
Dollywood’s newest attraction, Adventure Mountain, is scheduled to be completed for the park’s opening on March 27. Due to the economy the attraction was delayed until this year.
Adventure Mountain is billed as the largest challenge course in the country. There are four separate courses with 46 different elements plus a children’s area. The themed attraction will have much of the look and feel of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in its early years.
Dollywood theme park recently claimed its 4th consecutive Heartbeat Award at the International Assoc. of Amusement Parks & Attractions Expo held in Las Vegas.
This year’s award was for “Sha-Kon-O-Hey! Land of the Blue Smoke”, featuring eight songs written by Dolly Parton. The parks previous Heartbeat Award winners were “Dreamland Drive In” in 2006 & 2008 and “The Great American Country Show” in 2007.

Dollywood has announced that it will not be holding its annual Barbeque & Bluegrass Festival this fall. Park officials stated the festival, originally scheduled to take place Sept. 4-21, 2009, is on hiatus.
Dixie Stampede is having a sweepstakes drawing for a Pigeon Forge Getaway & a Bristol Motor Speedway Racing Experience. Dollywood announced this week it will begin construction on a new attraction for 2010, Adventure Mountain. Originally scheduled to open this year the project was delayed due to a road construction project and the poor economy.
The new attraction, to be located on a hill above the Tennessee Tornado rollercoaster, will cover 2 acres. The attraction will offer visitors some of the challenges of the outdoors with three different courses rated from easy to expert to test the skill and strength levels of participants.
To help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the city of Pigeon Forge is having an online promotion.
